For those of you who enjoy cultivating a hobby or business in crafts, the following ideas may come in handy when preparing for a craft fair or displaying your wares on a store window. No matter how beautiful your creation is, I cannot emphasis the importance of having a simple yet eye-catching display.
I wanted to share a few ways how everyday items as well as simple showpieces can be used inorder to display our craft stuff in a fair.
Ofcourse, for those of us who can afford them, nothing like the good’ol wire racks on wheels. They are a true blessing for all fair participants. However please note, it is important to know which rack can accomodate what size of objects. I have been known to have picked a magazine rack for my cards !!! (since that was the first time, I steped into a display store, I’ll just have to forgive myself for that silly but expensive mistake 😦 So yes, there are different sizes and its best to keep one of your items at hand when you are out shopping for these wire racks to know, which suits it best.
Here a just a few of those which I have used in several fairs :-
One of the most important tips would be to have things looking organized, making sure the table has a clean table dressing or skirting or a large piece of material which covers till the floor so that, any additional boxes or cartons etc can be hid underneath. Keep your items preferably at eye level.
I think this above wire rack was one of my most excellent investments. Not only becoz its on wheels but becoz it totally dismantles, (although the process is alittle painful to do so ~ but thats where hubby chips in. ) But also becoz there are several sizes of hangers that you get to place on these, which can accomodate different sizes of items, longer ones and larger ones too.
Again, I picked the above black rack mainly coz it was a triangle, meaning could hold on both sides which is exactly what I need.
This above wire hanger too, is excellent coz the items can be placed on both sides. It saves space and quite high, giving alot of area to hang larger items too.
For the on-top-of-the-table displays, here are a few suggestions :
There’s a good reason why I am called the Wicker Queen !!! Naturally baskets are one of my favorites. I have over a 100 baskets in various designs, shapes, sizes and textures. For the huge heap of cards, I generally like to use the different kinds of baskets. Although it is a good idea, to have several sizes of baskets for different items or even to compartmentalize different occasion cards to make it easy to browse thru them.
A different type of wire basket :
My all-time-favorite table easel is perfect for hosting cards, frames and several pieces within those dimensions. I think, I have more than 30-40 of these and each one is used brilliantly when I am participating in a card-only fair.
Also another easel :
Ofcourse for the table top display, traditionally, I prefer to mount items over larger boxes going over eachother as a pyramid. Notice the use of several boxes to add space and height.
Also seen here is the jewellry hanger from Ikea which is serving the purpose of hanging double sided tape in my case :
I am sure, many of you, already have this kind of a dish display unit ! Well, get it out and use it if your participating in a craft fair.
Ofcourse, I havent spared the toast stand either !
And why should the microwave grills not be used to add height to my display :
This little table top, chinese room divider is actually a display stand for some exotic show piece, ofcourse I had something else in mind for it.
For the smaller items like beads, buttons and tiny embellishments, I prefered to stack them in these little compartments, I got from Daiso ~ the Japanese store.
Ikea is a great source of inspiration for me. There are several kitchen items that can be upcycled in a craft fair display. You just have to broaden your horizons when viewing them.
I hope and trust, you found these ideas creative and helpful. Please dont hold back and use innovative ways to best display your work of love. Why should creativity be limited to your canvases or cards only, why not be creative and systematic in displaying them too !! Remember, There’s a good reason why large stores spend huge sums of money, in hiring merchanizers just to portray/display their commodities in a most attractive way.

These are some great ideas for saving space and organizing your booth!
Hi!My name is Tazein, I am from Singapore, also a mother of three, great to connect with you! Take care!
