May is always a busy month of the year for me ~ two birthdays, closing in of exam dates and a need for venting my creative energies ! Strangely enough, I find that I’m always super charged creatively more than ever when I am under pressure and short of time !
This month, I am also sharing some good news with you’ll. I am so happy to have been chosen the Guest Designer for Pretty Paper Studio. They are a relatively new online store who specialize in Scrapbooking kits, cardmaking kits and various other products related to paper crafting. They offer monthly sketch challenges for both Layouts and Cards.
I was delighted when the kit arrived nicely packaged with everything neatly enclosed.
Most designer’s turn to inspiration from paper, dies etc however little motivation is needed, because with one of these kits, it’s easy to create your own handmade greeting cards with a healthy mix of their beautifully coordinated papers, embellishments, rub-on sheet, stickers, twines, and rubber stamps, which are included in these creative paper craft kits. These kits called “a little something” are for AED 225 / AED 205 for subscribers.
You’ll need to have a paper craft adhesive on hand when making your cards. Typical scrapbooking adhesives work very well for card making applications. Glue dots, glue sticks, double-sided tape, and tape runners are all good options.
The June card kit called “a little something ” was a breath of fresh air and I, all but painted the town red !!! Playing with the various elements : colors, designs and embellishments was such fun. I was so overwhelmed, feeling that I had so many possible ideas with all these gorgeous papers and I just didn’t know which idea to start with ! I am sure, you will be smitten with the contents as well !
I have posted only 5 of the cards here which I will be posting individually in 5 different blog posts, describing the elements and details, at a later stage.
Thank you for visiting my blog home today. I hope you enjoyed your stay and visit me again. Please drop me a line and share your thoughts too, so I could visit you as well.
Thank you . Thank you Thank you Thank you so much for all your lovely comments on both the 3 cupcakes as well as the best bud card. Truly, it is so nice to have a circle of like minded friends who also understand issues like dental phobias and what not ! Its so nice be sourrounded in all the warmth of your comments, ladies. So please do keep shooting me those thoughtful comments 🙂
The card today is an all out and out male card. Infact, it would be more suited to a young male fella or even a kid. I know, eversince Mr Mojo has returned, he has also placed a spell over me for the color aquamarine and sky blue. Both the stamps here are digital stamps. The cutsie football player is from Nikki over at Melon Headz and the other ticket stamp is from … oops I forget ! Dear friends, many a times, if I am unable to remember whom the stamp belongs to, kindly let me know and I will be glad to give her credit for it. The sentiment is placed in a tag, while some martha stewart border punch has lined the printed DP. I really like playing with the banner ideas. Here I have just glued on some buttons to the banner. Relatively simple card with a very clean look. Hope you guys appreciate it too. Here is the image :
I am entering this card in the following challenges :
How I have missed all the fun of card challenges and my blog home !!!
To all the moms out there, who are new mums, expecting moms and those whos nests are now empty and to those who are presently enjoying the many bliss and drama of being a MOM ~ A very happy Mothers day to you. May your loved ones always stand by you, reciprocate your affection and support you.
Its been alittle more than a month since my last post. Thank you to all those of you who prayed so earnestly for my hubby to recover from his surgery. Well, I have really good news. He is improving with each new day.
I suppose somewhere inbetween tending him,the boys and a large effort in trying to reorganize a couple of rooms in my home, I had really lost my mojo to create anything. So I just let slumber and laziness get the better off me instead of using my night time (thats the time when I generally create) more constructively. But I had been visiting all my regular friends at their blogs and am so glad that we have been in touch.
Right, so as always, when I’m inspired ~ I tend to shut the door on everything outside my craft studio and let loose the creative bull in me !! And so It was yesterday that finally I broke the spell ~ Churned out 4 reasonably decent cards ! And heres the first one.
Unlike most of you, I dont decide what theme I want to use, I just focus on the sketch and the pattern paper and let the rest follow. So too, I wanted to experiment with this cord wrapping technique that I had seen some time back. I think, it looks good and simple. The super cute cupcake image is a digi stamp by Nikki from Melon Headz. Amazingly cute designs ! The circular sentiment is also a digi stamp.
Love the pink polka dot DP. These cute ceramic flowers in bright cheerful colors adorn the cord.
Voila ! I hope you like this card ! Just one question though, do you think this card could be given to a male friend/relative etc ? I mean, I think, the only real feminine element is the flowers but I feel this card can be presented for males as well. Your say ladies !
I would like to enter this card in the following card challenges :
Naturally the challenge demands a very simplistic and a less-cluttered looking card. I really enjoyed this lovely sketch and the idea that popped to my mind, was one, I have been wanting to try out for sometime now. I have used purple to give the card a strong base and added this handmade patterned paper. The stamp on the tag is handstamped with a simple message and a couple of buttons to finish off the look. In my opinion, it is a “Male” oriented card. It really was over in a jiffy once I figured out what I wanted for the focal point, which is the pattern paper.
Hello ladies. ( you mean, why not ladies and guys ?? )
Well, I doubt, alot of men find themselves scanning around card sites ~ its a rare “phenomenon”. I think, the majority of them are only ” emotionally forced ” to procure a card for their partners for anniversaries or birthdays. But imagine, how religiously, the same man, made such huge efforts in sending cards (with proper sentiments and not just the “I Love you” types) and flowers and gifts and what not before marriage and in the later years , its become a thing of the past.
Well, I have nothing to worry about in that area, DH knows exactly which shop to buy which punches/stamps for moi 🙂 Why spend on flowers or chocolates, when a bag of copic markers can keep me happy for months and months on an end. If only they had copics here in Dubai 😦 That is right up there in my wish list.
Okay anyways, one thing leads to another and my reason for this post is left behind.
I have never tried a banner card. This is a first time for me. I dont think, I have done 100% justice to this banner, still, I feel, its not too shabby. The color theme was Blue and red. The main elements was : 3 in a row, number, banner, party/birthday card, with a monkey/animal somewhere.
These are the criteria’s I had, and this is what I came up with. I have used my new fiskars apron punch which I got in my GUILT TRIP, the monkey’s are new rubber stamps too. The alphabet beads are so old but still they add a playful cheery element to any card or project whenever used. They are so so cute. A ribbon, paper lace and 3 buttons are the added other embellies here.
So do you think, a two year old would be delighted to get this card with monkeys, banners and beads to play around with ??
Here it is :
This here is my first attempt at the easel card ! Yeah, can you believe it ?? Well, since my mojo is on a real high, I wanted to experiment alittle beyond my range and frankly, as most crafters, we only realize our boundaries are limitless when we try to push it a little further .. we can stretch it with motivation and thats exactly what I am, right now ~ Motivated !
Making this card was not only fun, but I realized something strange. Being someone who feels more comfortable with symmetry, square cards provide alot of channels for me. I felt more easy with dividing in halfs and finding center focals ! My general style of card layouts are rectangular landscapes. So, yeah, I think you really will be seeing more of these here on !
Like I mentioned in my previous post, I rediscovered the corner punches (and perhaps got carried away a wee bit !!) Ofcourse I havent used any embellishments becoz, I wanted the paper colors, punches and the stamp, which is a digital stamp, to be the focal point. The card is supported by an oval sentiment in the inside of the it. I am pleased with the outcome and I feel, I have done a good job.
One young lad is going to be very happy for his birthday especially if he likes to ski ! 🙂
And now, its your verdict time guys !
This card qualifies for the following challenges :
Is it just me or do all children have the tendency to serve school notices just 5 mins before school bus ??!! so frustrating at that rush hour of the morning, the notice comes screaming like a siren !!
Last night I set out to make a birthday card for Mr M, Eman’s class teacher. He is new to Dubai and hails from Ireland. That is just about when I realized I dont have many male oriented birthday cards. So naturally I had a “valid excuse” for being cooped up for a good hour and a half in the studio !
I dont know if it happens with most of you, but sometimes, I am so charged up that I can actually dole out half a dozen good cards in a night and sometimes, I spend the first 25 -30 minutes just looking frustratedly at the pile of papers or stamps or tools or all of it ! Sometimes there are so many wild and creative ideas bubbling up in my mind, that it leaves me with none in hand ! Ever happened to you ? So overwhelming. I suppose its a ” Crafters Block ” if you may.
Last night was no different, I really had so much up my mind that I couldnt find the right direction. Eventually though I did manage the card.
Well, except for the lacey border on the eggplant colored paper, I think this card feels right for the men folks. In any case, lets just hold the “thought that counts ” theory and be happy.
The mustardish paper with the black and pink dots is a first time for me and I really can begin to tell you how easy that print is to decorate. Some polka dots are difficult to arrange the other elements on. Not this one. This one was so sober. Everything just geled well with it.
Ceramic rusty leaves, cute beige buttons, a tag, a rubber stamped cupcake, and a digital image birthday sentiment. Alittle of paper layering and voila. The recipe is complete ! Enjoy.
Unfortunetly there arent any specific color challenges that this card qualifies. I dont wish to add this card again this week, for the button or lace challenges either. So here are the challenges that this card will enter :
Ok So I got a jump start on inspiration this Sunday !! I broke my own record of attempting to sit straight thru so many hours of a card making session. Althoug the back is alittle soar and complaining, I really had fun. Well, what can I say ??
Its the last few days before school starts and the boys and I are back locking horns over studies issues and “THIS IS ” supposed to be the great “ME TIME” everybody is always talking about these days ! Isnt it ? Well, DH is not too pleased about it though. I sneaked out inbetween a movie time downstairs in the TV Room 😦
Besides which there were heaps of sketches to choose from over at stamping when I can at :
God, her site is so addictive, that I just got carried away !!! Such fabulous sketches and all my creative juices were having a race !
So this is a pic of what I came up with … ofcourse, getting them all posted as individual posts as well as linking them to their individual challenges would be another number of hours for me ~ not a very blog savvy person here !! Anyways, here’s a picture of all my 9 cards : Some of them are entering two challenges each card, and just one of them is entering 3 challenges, which is also a first for me. And then the rest of them are just one challenge each.
Oh and for close ups, please have a look at the individual posts after this posting.
